New BioShocking Attack Technique Exploits AI Browsers

Researchers have disclosed a novel attack technique called "BioSharking" that manipulates AI-powered browsers to leak user credentials, raising significant concerns in the cybersecurity community.

A newly discovered cyber threat known as “BioShocking” is causing alarm among security experts. The technique involves manipulating artificial intelligence (AI)-powered web browsers into surrendering sensitive information such as login details and other personal data 1. This vulnerability allows attackers to frame malicious instructions within game mechanics or interactive elements on websites, tricking users' browser assistants without their knowledge of being compromised.

Researchers at LayerX demonstrated this method against six major agentic browsers including OpenAI's ChatGPT Atlas, Perplexity’s Comet, Anthropic's Claude extension, highlighting its widespread potential for exploitation across various platforms 2.

The implications are severe given how widely used these types of AI tools now are; any reliance on them could expose individuals’ private accounts if accessed by unscrupulous actors through specially designed phishing pages or legitimate-looking interactions online.
